Tourette’s Compression Garment
This wearable piece and companion app is aimed to be an empowering suite of products for those suffering with tourette’s syndrome. A relatively under researched and misunderstood condition, I took this challenge as an opportunity to educate and create a unique and applicable solution
Behind the Design
The main idea behind the compression shirt is that it gives the uniform pressure needed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system ultimately creating a relaxed state for the individual wearing it. I wanted it to be low profile and able to be worn under a shirt. In addition, one large concern was the lack if access to CBIT training. As a result, the integrated fidget at the hem of the shirt can be used to help develop a competing response which is stage two of CBIT therapy. Essentially, when the wearer has the urge to tic they use the customizable fidget zone to focus their response. This wearable is an all encompassing piece that helps enforce positive habits for those suffering with Tourette’s
