Tourette’s Compression Garment
This wearable piece and companion app is aimed to be an empowering suite of products for those suffering with tourette’s syndrome. A relatively under researched and misunderstood condition, I took this challenge as an opportunity to educate and create a unique and applicable solution
Behind the Design
The main idea behind the compression shirt is that it gives the uniform pressure needed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system ultimately creating a relaxed state for the individual wearing it. I wanted it to be low profile and able to be worn under a shirt. In addition, one large concern was the lack if access to CBIT training. As a result, the integrated fidget at the hem of the shirt can be used to help develop a competing response which is stage two of CBIT therapy. Essentially, when the wearer has the urge to tic they use the customizable fidget zone to focus their response.
